Treatment and Therapy for Various Injuries
Spine & Back Injuries
Your back is made of bones, muscles and other tissues extending from your neck to your pelvis. Back injuries can result from playing sports, working around the house or in the garden, low- or high-speed car accidents, lifting heavy objects or a fall.
If back pain is getting worse over time, it does not feel better with rest and over-the-counter pain remedies, or it involves neurological symptoms, then it is advisable to be evaluated by a back-pain doctor.
Neck Injuries
Most people will have a minor neck problem at one time or another. Our body movements usually don’t cause problems. But sometimes symptoms can develop from everyday wear and tear, overuse, or injury.
Neck problems and injuries most often occur during sports or recreation activities, work-related tasks, auto accidents or projects around the home.
Nerve Injuries
Symptoms of nerve injuries vary. Injured sensory nerves typically cause pain and/or numbness. The area controlled by the nerve no longer tells the brain about pain, temperature, and pressure. The raw nerve end can be very painful. Injured motor nerves result in loss of function of the controlled muscle.
Peripheral nerves can be damaged in several ways: Injury from an accident, a fall or sports, which can stretch, compress, crush or cut nerves.
Sports Injuries
Most sports injuries are due to either trauma or overuse of muscles or joints. The majority are caused by minor trauma involving muscles, ligaments, tendons or bones.
Rehabilitation programs and treatments for sports injuries are usually conducted on an outpatient basis.
MRI & X-Ray
While both diagnostic imaging devices, MRI & X-RAY are equally important tools (in some circumstances) for your physician, there are important differences. X-rays are mainly used for evaluating detailed images of bones and sometimes diseased tissue. An MRI is better suited for evaluating soft tissue like tendons, ligaments, muscles, organs, etc. The MRI shows a series of “slices”, allowing abnormalities to be seen from varying angles.
